Red, White & Blue
After his widely praised psychological horror film The Living the and Dead, British director Simon Rumley joined forces with producer Tim League who, together with Harry Knowles of the Fantastic Fest in Austin,Texas and aintitcool.com, to make Red, White & Blue. This intense film takes some time to pick up steam and first follows the cool, emotionless nympho Erica, who dives into bed with any man she meets. When she is offered a job in a DIY store in Austin, she discovers two sides to the kindness of strangers.
Rumley, the cinematic outsider, influenced by genre masters Wes Craven and Larry Clark, switches between three different perspectives and, in this way, combines the natural quality of an earlier trilogy about English youth culture with the darkness of his later genre work. Leading roles are played by Noah Taylor (The New World, Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous) as a discharged vet and Amanda Fuller (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as the extremely promiscuous Erica, who manages to evoke understanding for her behavior.
“Engrossing, moving and terrifying by turns, Simon Rumley's fifth feature is a fantastically atmospheric slice of Americana, a beautifully scripted character drama, a horrifying revenge thriller and ultimately even a profoundly affecting love story.” (twitchfilm.com)
