Synopsis
In this strange story of sensuality, love and grief, set in the Galata district of present-day Istanbul, Musa, a young muezzin comes to the city for the first time in his life, is assigned a mosque and receives an apartment. His next door neighbor is Clara, a Catholic nurse, who takes care of Sister Anna, an older nurse. Exciting as this first encounter is in the beginning, Musa hesitates to confess to himself what is actually happening. but as time passes, his love for Clara surfaces and builds as he starts working for librarian Yakup in the church Clara attends regularly. Soon the lives of the three intersect. In this exceptional debut by Mahmut Fazil Coskun, the rhythms and ambiance of multi-religious Istanbul emerge, within its distinctive spaces and unusual characters.
