Synopsis

One of the most imaginative thrillers of recent years, this fifth feature from the director of the cult classics Nightwatch and The Substitute, Just Another Love Story raises the stakes in the field of modern film noir. After crime scene photographer Jonas (Anders W. Berthelsen) inadvertently causes a car crash, he feels compelled to check up on Julie (Rebecka Hemse). The young woman who’s been hospitalized in the wreck. Jonas is in for a surprise when he finagles a visit to the hospital and is welcomed warmly by Julie’s family, who assume he is her new fiancée.

Even though he’s happily married, Jonas plays along out of guilt and compassion – with a little assist from Julie’s father’s deep pockets. What begins as a relatively harmless deception soon spirals off in increasingly violent directions Jonas could never anticipate. Nominated for ten awards at Copenhagen’s prestigious Robert Film Festival, this “jumpy, high-adrenaline thriller” (Stephen Holden, New York Times) also claimed Bodil Awards (the Danish Oscar equivalent) for cinematography and Charlotte Fich’s bold performance as Jonas’s stalwart wife.
