The return home from rugby practice doesn't usually include the imprudent decision to join a war, but that's what World War II New Zealand Army volunteer Ed Preston did in this poetic film memoir of honor and passion reimagined by his filmmaking daughter. Based on conversations with her late father, prestigious filmmaker Gaylene Preston (War Stories Our Mother Never Told Us) tells the story of a World War II soldier and his return—not to worry, he’ll be home by Christmas. Four-years later, now a battle-worn Italian prison camp escapee, he learns that his pregnant new wife has fallen for someone else.
