The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival is produced by The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul (formerly Minnesota Film Arts).  The Film Society also presents a diverse slate of international, independent and art-house films year-round on Screen 3 at the St. Anthony Main Theatres.  The Film Society’s Executive Director, Susan Smoluchowski, announces expanded year-round programming including a number of mini-festivals, events and series every year. These include a geographically-focused festival series -Asian in 2010, Latin in 2011, African in 2012 - made possible with Legacy Amendment funding, a Sustainability Series beginning this February, a monthly Documenting America Series, programs in collaboration with the University of Minnesota and major arts institutions such as the Guthrie Theater and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and much more…

 

 

The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul (formerly Minnesota Film Arts) is one of the most diversified film-arts organizations in the country and is the largest exhibitor of artistic and international films in the Upper Midwest, exhibiting some 400 titles annually to an audience in excess of 100,000. Its inherited 50 year operating history makes The Film Society one of the oldest film-arts presenting institutions in the nation. The Film Society was born of a merger ten years ago between the now nearly 50 year old U Film Society - a groundbreaking institution and the Twin Cities' foremost exhibitor of international and art-house fare and longstanding producer of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, and the 10 year old Oak Street Arts - one of the most ambitious repertory cinema and community film access organizations in the country.

 

The Film Society is located at the St. Anthony Main Theatre Complex on the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, where it continues its tradition of year-round film exhibition. The Film Society presents the best of classic, contemporary and cutting-edge cinema from around the world, celebrating the diverse art of the motion picture as it was always intended—as a shared, community experience on the big screen. Our mission is to broaden the appreciation, accessibility and understanding of the art of film. Going beyond the movies, The Film Society provides a unique service to filmmakers and the community by bringing in experts in the field from around the globe to discuss their work, presenting panel discussions and educational programs and producing world-class events like its centerpiece, the annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival.
